Sada Yacco, a once geisha turned into a dancer and actress, was the first “geisha” to perform in the west. She started her life as a geisha in unfortunate circumstances. She even describes the less than favorable position of being born a girl in her society, that women are ‘despised, cursed, inferior, and a slave to men.’ Sada Yacco later meets Otojiro Kawakami, a once politician turned playwright and actor.
